The Eze Igbo of Ajao Estate in Lagos, Fredrick Nwajagu, has been arrested by the operatives of Nigeria Police Force and Department of State Services (DSS).
It was gathered that a combined team of Policemen and DSS operatives arrested Nwajagu in the early hours of Saturday.
It was further gathered that the Igbo leader was not in his palace when the team stormed his palace but was eventually arrested in a hotel in Ejigbo area of the State at about 1:00am.
The traditional title holder, who is currently in the custody of the DSS, had on Friday threatened to invite members of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) to Lagos State to secure properties of Igbo people resident in the State.
The Igbo leader said they can’t be subjected to attacks following their decision on who to vote for, especially during the March 18, 2023 governorship election in Lagos State.
According to him, two major candidates in the concluded electoral process, incumbent Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour of the Labour Party (LP) were both Yorubas and the choice was theirs to make, wondering why his kinsmen were being hounded.
Nwajagu had said: “IPOB, we will invite them. They have no job. All of the IPOB will protect all of our shops. And we have to pay them. We have to mobilise for that. We have to do that. We must have our own security so that they will stop attacking us in the midnight, in the morning, in the afternoon.’’
But, unhappy with such utterances, the Lagos State chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) condemned the what it called post-election hate speeches and fake news that were being promoted and sponsored on various social media platforms and conventional media spaces.
The spokesman of the party, Hon. Seye Oladejo, alerted the security agencies to meetings held on Twitter Space aimed at mobilizing unsuspecting persons for demonstrations to destabilising and destroying Lagos State.
He, however, urged the police and other security agencies to go a step further to curb the excesses of warmongers and scaremongers, who were desperate in their bid to foment trouble in the State.
He said, “We condemn the post-election hate speeches and fake news still being promoted in various media spaces.
“May I alert the security agencies by calling their attention to meetings on Twitter Space towards mobilizing unsuspecting people for demonstrations aimed at destroying Lagos State, a replica of the #EndSARS saga.”
