Kaduna South: La’ah Plots Senate Return As Auta Steps Aside

A former senator representing Kaduna South, Danjuma La’ah, is making moves to return to the National Assembly ahead of the next election cycle.

His renewed ambition comes as Engr. Michael Auta, a political figure who contested the senatorial seat in 2023, announced he would no longer pursue the race for now.

Auta disclosed his decision during a meeting with political stakeholders and support groups in Kafanchan, headquarters of Southern Kaduna.

He said his withdrawal was informed by ongoing consultations within the political bloc in the area.

He noted, however, that his position could change if circumstances shift, indicating he may reconsider his ambition if La’ah does not proceed with his bid.

La’ah, who served in the Senate from 2015 to 2023, confirmed he is under pressure from some constituents to recontest. He said consultations are ongoing as he weighs his options.

At the meeting, both men addressed supporters on the political situation in the district, with discussions centring on representation and the need for cohesion among political actors in Southern Kaduna.

Observers say the development signals early realignments among key political figures in the district as parties and aspirants begin to position themselves ahead of future elections.

The meeting drew party stakeholders, support groups and community representatives from across the zone.
