The Joint Union of Tertiary Institutions of Kaduna State (JUTIKS) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the state government over what it described as the non-implementation of key agreements, warning that an indefinite strike will commence on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, if their demands were not met.
JUTIKS, which comprises the academic and non-academic staff of Nuhu Bamali Polytechnic, Zaria, Kaduna State College of Education, Gidan Waya, Kaduna State College of Nursing Sciences, and Shehu Idris College of Health Sciences and Technology, Makarfi, took the decision at the end of its leadership meeting yesterday.
In a communiqué signed by Comrade Usman Shehu Suleiman, chairman JUTIKS/ASUP NBPZ, and Comrade Abubakar Yusuf, secretary ASUP, NBPZ, the unions accused the government of failing to implement the 15-year-old CONPCASS/CONTEDISS salary structure as stipulated in the schemes and Conditions of Service of regulatory bodies such as the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the National Commission for Colleges of Education (NCCE).
The union also demanded that the Executive Order on the 65-year retirement age for academic staff be reviewed to include non-academic staff, in line with the same regulatory schemes, without additional conditions or requirements.
While appreciating Governor Uba Sani for signing the Executive Order on the retirement age for academic staff, the union noted that excluding non-academic staff was “unfair and unacceptable.”
“Having waited patiently on government for such a long time, we hereby issue a seven-day notice to the Kaduna State government, at the expiration of which an indefinite strike will take effect from Tuesday, 19th August 2025″.
The communiqué was jointly endorsed by leaders of various unions under JUTIKS, including Comrade Christopher Yerima, chairman CQEASU Gidan Waya, Comrade Mohammed Kwarbai, chairman NASU NBPZ, Comrade David Thomas Yashim, chairman SSUCOEN Gidan Waya, Comrade Abubakar Aliyu, Chairman SSANIP NBPZ, Comrade Daniel Danboyi, Chairman ASUP KSCONS, Comrade Emmanuel Danjuma, chairman NASU KSCONS, Comrade Abubakar Abdullahi, chairman NASU SICHST Makarfi and others.
