Normalcy has returned to Kano city on Saturday after a siege by security operatives on the palace of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II on Friday.

On Saturday, the Police authorities withdrew the Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) and fierce-looking armed personnel earlier stationed in front of the palace, making the environment tensed.

All efforts to get the Kano State Police Command’s comment on the development failed following the rumour that their action was an “order from above”. The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) didn’t respond to calls and text messages by journalists.

However, the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, while reacting to the development on Friday, called on Kano residents to desist from engaging in any form of violence following the blockade of his palace by security operatives.

“I wish to warn you against falling into the trap of the enemies of Kano who want to set Kano on fire through violent killings, destruction of public properties and maiming of innocent individuals,” the monarch.

The Emir spoke while delivering a sermon at the Juma’at Congregational Prayer at the palace mosque.

“Islam preaches that you be patient at all times. With patience, one becomes great, without which one would get nowhere,” he added.

The state government had earlier condemned the police action against the palace on Friday, which was said to be orchestrated to stop the Emir from appointing a district head at Bichi, a former Emirate dissolved by the incumbent Governor Abba Yusuf administration.
