In January, Solidstar accused Kel-P of stealing his musical style and using it for Burna Boy when he had the chance to collaborate with the Grammy-winning artiste.

Solidstar stated that he allowed the matter to slide because Burna Boy once assisted him.
On his X handle, he wrote, “I groomed Kel-P up, we made Eleganza and some unreleased songs, trying to make an album with him, Burna Boy dropped an Album that time, and I heard lots of my vibes, I was really pained, Kel-P for collect, but I let it slide because Burna supported me once, Evidence dey.”
Reacting to the claims in a recent episode of the Urban96 podcast, Kel-P insisted that he created the musical styles Solidstar accused him of stealing from him and giving Burna Boy.

He explained that some artists assumed they own a sound because a producer created similar sounds with them.

He said, “So many artists have said I’m giving their vibes to other artists. What they don’t understand is that I created the sound and I give to them so when they hear that same sound from other artist, they feel entitled.

“Solidstar was one of the first artists I worked with. We were making music back and forth. To be honest, I didn’t make a dime from him. I was just making music with him because he’s talented. But when I got the opportunity to work with Burna Boy, I stopped giving attention to other artists.

“And Solidstar reached out to me after the COVID-19 lockdown in 2021 or 2022. He followed me on Instagram and came to my DM to congratulate me on my deal with Burna Boy. He asked me to look out for a recording deal for him and I promised to keep in touch. But after two days, he unfollowed me. I didn’t take it personal.

“Months later, he came back and followed me. He hit me up in the DM but I didn’t respond to him so he unfollowed me again. Then a month ago, a friend sent me a screenshot of Solidstar’s rant about me on X. I was shocked.”
Kel-P gained recognition after producing and co-writing 10 of the 19 songs on Burna Boy’s 2019 Grammy-nominated album, ‘African Giant.’
