Kwankwaso: ADC Alleges Plot To Destabilise Party, Accuses Government Of Pressuring INEC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has accused the Federal Government led by the All Progressives Congress (APC) of attempting to destabilise the party following the defection of Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso into the ADC.

In a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, the party alleged that there is mounting pressure on the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Ojo Amupitan, to interfere in its internal leadership structure.

The ADC claimed that a letter dated March 28, 2026, written by a group of Senior Advocates of Nigeria on behalf of an individual it described as an expelled member, is being used to push INEC to invalidate decisions taken by the party’s leadership.

According to the party, the letter is seeking to compel the electoral body to interpret a Court of Appeal ruling in a way that would alter the party’s structure before the matter is fully determined by the courts.

The ADC further alleged that the letter included threats against the INEC chairman and called for the reversal of party decisions, including the recognition of certain officials.

The party dismissed claims by Nafiu Bala Gombe, describing him as a former member who had resigned and was later expelled, adding that he was never the national chairman of the party.

It also linked the development to what it described as political pressure following Kwankwaso’s recent defection, which it said had increased the party’s visibility and support base.

The ADC called on INEC to remain neutral and act in accordance with constitutional provisions, warning against any attempt to interfere in its internal affairs.

End.
