Six aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Kaiama Local Government Area seeking the party’s House of Representatives ticket for the Baruten/Kaiama Federal Constituency in Kwara State have jointly rejected what they described as attempts to impose a candidate on the constituency ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The aspirants, known as concerned Kaiama APC House of Representatives aspirants, stated this in a joint statement.
The aspirants are Hon. Aliyu Umar Mande, Comrade Abubakar Musa Shamaki, and Arc. Aliyu Muhammad Saiffudeen; Hon. Halidu Danbaba; Malam Anas Adamu Galadima (Zam-Zam); and Hon. Aliyu Abubakar Ibrahim (Alhaji Wure).
The position was reached at a meeting held on Thursday, 14 May 2026, where the aspirants resolved to protect the integrity of the democratic process and preserve unity within the APC family in Kaiama.
The aspirants stated that while they remain loyal members of the APC, they firmly believe that the people and stakeholders of Kaiama should retain the right to determine who emerges as their preferred candidate for the House of Representatives seat.
According to them, all aspirants from Kaiama would be subject to the collective decision of Kaiama elders, APC stakeholders, and party leaders on the emergence of a consensus candidate.
They also pledged to support whoever emerges from the stakeholders’ process and to work together to ensure the APC’s success in the forthcoming elections.
The aspirants stressed that unity within Kaiama and the broader constituency remains paramount, noting that personal ambitions must be secondary to the collective interest of the party and the people.
They further urged communities and party leaders in Baruten Local Government Area to support only a candidate endorsed by Kaiama stakeholders, and not any candidate imposed from outside the area.
The aspirants also appealed to the APC national leadership, the Kwara State chapter of the party, and Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq to ensure that no candidate is imposed on the Baruten/Kaiama Federal Constituency.
“The meeting ended with a call on party members and supporters to remain calm, united, and committed to the progress and electoral success of the APC,” the statement added.
