Chairman, Senate Committee on Ethics, Privileges and Public Petitions, Senator Neda Imansuen (LP) representing Edo South Senatorial District at the National Assembly, has hailed the Supreme Court ‘s removal of Labour Party national chairman, Julius Abure.

The Supreme Court on Friday in a unanimous judgment by a five-member panel set aside the decision of the Court of Appeal in Abuja which recognised Abure as the party’s national chairman.

Imansuen who expressed disappointment at the way the party’s fortunes had nosedived under Abure, noted that the judgment was long overdue and regretted that most members had left the party due to internal wrangling.

The federal lawmaker who was however evasive about his political future on the platform of the LP spoke when he played host to members and leadership of the Correspondent’s’ Chapel of the Edo NUJ. He expressed commitment to continue to champion initiatives that impact on the lives of his constituents and Nigerians.

He said, “Sincerely, I also welcome the judgement, a lot has gone wrong in the Labour Party and very unfortunate too. Abure, who was the chairman at a time in my opinion, didn’t really have the party at heart because it became a personal thing. It became more like let’s fight and tear this cloth to pieces instead of preserving it.

“The Supreme Court putting a seal on it was a welcome development but the question to me and all of us is where do we go from here? Someone spoke to me on the matter and I said I just hope it is a little too late what has just come up because the Labour Party is almost decimated and most of the members are gone. Will this judgement bring them back? I don’t know and only time will tell.”
