Man Plans Friend’s Murder Over Fake Land Deal In Anambra

Police in Anambra State have arrested a 32-year-old man, Ifeanyi Nwankwo, who confessed planning the murder of his friend, 56-year-old Kelechi Madu, a resident of Awkuzu community in Oyi local government area of the state along with two others.

Spokesman of the state police command Superintendent Tochukwu Ikenga said in a statement in Awka that Nwankwo confessed upon interrogation that he plotted Madu’s killing in order to conceal a sum of money he gave him to purchase a land for him.

“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly obtained money fraudulently from the deceased under the guise of assisting him to acquire a piece of land.

“In an attempt to conceal the alleged fraudulent transaction and suppress the money obtained from the deceased, the suspect reportedly hired two other persons to murder him,” SP Ikenga said in the statement yesterday.

He added that the command’s operatives had embarked on a manhunt for Madu’s whereabouts after his wife on August 18 reported that he was missing.
She told the police that her husband had gone out on the evening of the previous day and but did not return.

Ikenga said after the report, police operatives, members of the vigilante group and the deceased’s family commenced inquiries and a search operation to establish his whereabouts.

According to the police spokesman, in evening of August 18, the wife returned to the station and reported that her husband had been found dead in a nearby bush at Umuobi Awkuzu.
Police operatives mobilised to the scene where the deceased was found dead with a deep axe cut on his head.

“The corpse was subsequently evacuated and deposited in hospital for preservation”, Ikenga stated.
He said the commissioner of police, Nnanna Oji Ama, directed an investigation to identify and arrest those involved in the conspiracy and murder.
He assured of the command’s determination to ensure that everyone involved in the crime is brought to justice.
