‎A suspected mentally- unstable man has allegedly killed his own son and two other children in a brutal attack that has thrown residents of Okitipupa in Ondo State into mourning.
‎
‎The tragic incident reportedly took place inside a family residence and has left the community in shock and grief.
‎
‎The victims, all said to be members of the same extended family, included a female student enrolled in the Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board (JUPEB) programme, her cousin, and a young boy identified as the biological son of the suspect.
‎
‎Eyewitness accounts indicated that the assailant, a male relative alleged to be mentally unstable, attacked the children with a machete before fleeing the scene.
‎
‎A resident who spoke on condition of anonymity described the incident as heartbreaking, noting that the victims were closely related.
‎
‎“The victims include a JUPEB student and two young boys. One of them is the attacker’s son, while the others are members of the extended family. It is a very sad situation,” the source said.
‎
‎Further findings revealed that the head of the family, identified as Baba Agbaye, had earlier left home with his wife and youngest child for their oil farm before the incident occurred.

‎Confirming the incident on Wednesday, the spokesperson of the Ondo State Police Command, DSP Jimoh Abayomi, said the suspect had been arrested and that a full investigation had commenced.
‎
‎“The suspect has been arrested, and a thorough investigation is currently ongoing. He will be charged to court upon conclusion of the investigation,” he said.
‎
‎He added that residents should remain calm and law-abiding, assuring that justice would be served in accordance with the law.
‎
‎The incident has continued to generate sorrow across the community, with residents describing it as a devastating and painful loss.
‎
‎The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital for preservation.
