The commandant-general, Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) , Dr. Abubakar Audi, has been applauded by the federal government for providing improved welfare and safety packages for men and officers of the Corps.
This is even as NSCDC personnel were also warned to desist from engaging in any kind of confrontation and showing unnecessary rivalry with the military and other sister security agencies.
The minister of Interior, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, gave the warning yesterday, at the commissioning of the renovated NSCDC parade ground and a two-unit bedroom edifice at the NSCDC headquarters in Abuja.
He said: “Yesterday, May 22, 2023, I had the pleasure of being taken to Kebbi and Sokoto to commission the state headquarters offices of the Nigeria Security and Defense Corps in these two states.
“Those buildings were magnificent. The ceremonies were beautiful. The receptions we received were excellent. And the welcome we got was beyond comparison.
“I want to thank the commander in general for his hospitality and courtesy for that trip. And here we are, again, another project.”
Aregbesola, who expressed satisfaction at the level of infrastructural developments embarked upon by the NSCDC boss, explained that accommodating any kind of inter- agency rivalry could undermine their responsibilities in dealing insecurity bedeviling the nation and thus, hamper the needed peace in the country.
The minister, who also commissioned NSCDC projects in Birnin Kebbi, the Kebbi State capital and in Sokoto State, charged the Corps to be more committed and proactive as the government would continue to provide for their welfare, logistics and equipment for the effective discharge of their duties
On his part, the NSCDC boss , Dr Audi, said part of his vision for the Corps is not only to improve existing facilities but to develop new ones.
He also noted that the staff welfare program is part of ensuring the provision of shelter towards enriching the housing needs of the Corps to further boost the morale of personnel.
