My Endorsement of Wadada Does Not Stop Other Aspirants from Contesting — Gov Sule

Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has said the political space remains open for other contenders seeking the party’s governorship ticket, stressing that his endorsement of Senator Ahmed Aliyu Wadada does not foreclose the opportunities provided by the direct primary elections.

In a statewide broadcast ahead of the primaries in the state, Governor Sule explained that endorsing individuals with the capacity to consolidate on the achievements recorded by an administration is not new in democratic politics.

He, however, added that such actions are not intended to diminish the rights, aspirations, or contributions of other respected aspirants and their supporters.

“As Governor of Nasarawa State and leader of our great party in the state, I have exercised my constitutional and democratic right to support and endorse an aspirant whom I believe possesses the capacity, experience, and vision to consolidate on the gains we have collectively made.

“Importantly, this does not foreclose the opportunities that exist in the direct primary elections, which our party’s critical stakeholders have opted for. This is in line with democratic tenets and conforms with the APC constitution,” he stated.

Sule promised that, as leader of the state, he would provide a level playing field for all contenders to test their popularity through a credible process.

“Let me once more restate for the record that, as leader of the state, I will ensure a credible contest.

“For those who sacrificed their ambitions and chose to work for the success of our party at the state and national levels, we say a big thank you. To those who chose to test their popularity at the primaries, you have done nothing wrong,” he noted.

He appealed to APC members, as well as members of other political parties, to approach the period with restraint, understanding, and a shared commitment to peace.

“We must never allow political differences to divide our people or threaten the stability we have worked so hard to build over the years.

“At the end of the primaries and elections, we shall all remain one big family bound by a common destiny and united by our love for Nasarawa State. No ambition is greater than the peace, unity, and progress of our dear state,” he said.

He noted that the supremacy of democracy lies not in bitterness or coercion, but in the freedom of the people to participate peacefully and accept lawful outcomes in good faith.

The governor urged youths, especially, not to allow themselves to be used as instruments of conflict or division, even as he called on them to deploy their energy, strength, and talents toward the development and future prosperity of the state.

He also called on security agencies across the state to redouble their efforts in securing lives and property before, during, and after the primaries.
