The Nasarawa State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned “fifth columnist” within its fold to behave according to the party’s tenet or be shown the way out.
The party said it cannot harbour stakeholders who bore ill-will against it and Governor Abdullahi Sule as the leader of the party in the state.
APC’s State Publicity Secretary, Chief Otaru Douglas, in a statement on Monday in Lafia, accused certain elements within the party of working to undermine Governor Sule’s tireless efforts to develop the state.
The statement said it is politically incorrect for any member of the party, no matter how highly placed, to continue to exhibit disdain and acts capable of denigrating the sanctity of the office of the Governor.
It reads, “The APC may debug itself of moles as it cannot continue to romance with fifth columnist within its fold. Elections have since come and gone. Any supposed member still harbouring hate and mischief against the policies and programmes of Engr Abdullahi A Sule may be declared persona non grata.
“At this critical period where the supremacy and cohesion of the party is non-negotiable, the party will not hesitate to purge itself of such misguided elements who are hiding under the glory of their former offices to cause strife within the ranks of the party as they are often seen grandstanding on issues of state illogically, all for the sake of their personal greed and thereby, posing a dangerous threats to the party,” the statement read.
The ruling party in the state restated, that while it was committed to deploying all reconciliatory mechanisms in assuaging the feelings of the genuinely aggrieved members of the party, it will not tolerate continued unwarranted attacks on the government.
Douglas noted that the attack by those he described as “infectious bugs who viciously and flagrantly worked against the interest of the party during the elections and litigation period but still having the audacity to taunt the government in bad light will no longer be tolerated. “
The party then cautioned party members to respect constituted authority, uphold the ideals of the party and shun acts capable of further dividing its members.
“You are either with us or against us, ‘it is irrational for anyone to forbid eating a particular type of meat but yet, taking delight in licking its sauce,” the APC chairman said.
“As a party, we have since forgiven them of their misdeeds, but it is obvious they are yet to forgive themselves of their unholy activities. While we respect the sanctity of the party’s constitution, we wish to once again, extend our amnesty to them to become born again, refrain from desperation, and work with the party for the progress of the state,” he said.
The APC chairman however vowed that appropriate disciplinary actions would be applied against members who fail to heed the call, and obey the party’s rules.
