NDPHC, NPA Collaboration Advances Nigeria’s Power Sector Growth

The Niger Delta Power Holding Company Limited (NDPHC) has commended the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) for its intervention in facilitating the recovery of several abandoned NDPHC cargoes at various seaports across the country.

The recovery is expected to lead to power sector optimisation and service delivery.

The commendation was made when the management of NDPHC, led by its managing director/chief executive officer, Engr. Jennifer Adighije, paid a courtesy visit to the NPA management at its headquarters in Marina, Lagos.

Speaking during the visit, Adighije said the engagement was aimed at strengthening the strategic partnership between both organisations and deepening collaboration in areas of mutual interest.

She expressed NDPHC’s appreciation to the NPA Managing Director/CEO, Dr. Abubakar Dantsoho, and his management team for their support in facilitating the recovery of the company’s abandoned cargoes at different seaports.

According to her, the NPA’s intervention had prevented significant financial losses and saved NDPHC several billions of naira that could otherwise have been lost.

Adighije noted that efficient logistics and timely clearance of critical equipment remained important to the successful implementation of power infrastructure projects, stressing the need for sustained collaboration between agencies and organisations operating across the energy and maritime sectors.

She said NDPHC valued the support received from the NPA and looked forward to further strengthening the relationship in the interest of Nigeria’s power sector and the wider economy.

The NDPHC’s delegation included the Executive Director, Corporate Services, Hon. Chukwuma Umeoji; Executive Director, Finance & Accounts, Mr. Omololu Agoro; and Head, Expediting & Logistics, Rufai Ahmed.

Responding, Dantsoho expressed delight at the visit and reaffirmed the NPA management’s commitment to supporting initiatives and partnerships that contribute to national development and improve the lives of Nigerians.

He congratulated NDPHC on its contributions to the development of Nigeria’s power sector, noting that the authority remained open to meaningful engagements with the company.

Dantsoho assured the delegation of the NPA’s continued support for initiatives that advance the interests of both organisations and contribute to the growth of the national economy.

He wished NDPHC continued success and stressed that his doors would remain open for productive discussions and partnerships.

The engagement underscores the importance of inter-agency collaboration in removing logistical bottlenecks that can delay critical infrastructure projects, particularly in the power sector where the timely delivery of equipment is essential to improving electricity supply across the country.

Optimization of installed capacity will take significant shape as the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) confirms fresh operational capability that will enhance efficiency and develop export competitiveness.

Confirming this major shift, the Managing Director of the NISO, Abdu Mohammed told LEADERSHIP that broader investment is targeting electricity export growth with intended economic returns and other hand effectively attend to increasing demand at home.

Similarly,  Sadiq Wanka, Special Adviser to the President on Power Infrastructure, said Nigeria has vast generation potential and installed generation capacity that outstrips grid consumption today.
