A non-governmental organisation (NGO), Harbour of Hope Initiative has expressed its readiness  for creation of jobs for underprivileged children and  their parents by creating jobs with empowerment through skills acquisition.

The founder of  Harbour of Hope Initiative, Kate Wagbasoma who  made this known to LEADERSHIP during one of the outreaches of the Initiative in Ogudu Kingdom, Lagos  on  Saturday said the gesture  is her contribution  towards alleviating  the harsh economic situation.

According to Wagbasoma, the  new  development is borne out of the large numbers of less privileged people that thronged her distribution of relief  materials, like  clothing materials, food packs including free  medical tests, free medicines after tests to deserving people within and around the community.

Furthermore, during  a chat with LEADERSHIP, Kate Wagbasoma said she decided to  embark on the outreach despite the odds to assist the less privileged as a way of fulfilling/redeeming her vow which she made to God when her child was at the point of death.

“When my son was at the point of death after undergoing surgery, I prayed to God that if God would spare the life of my son, I will spread the goodness of God by helping the less privileged in society amidst hard economic situations.

“I am going to change it to empowerment whereby I will set up empowering centres and  send them to  go through skills acquisition centres that will assist the parents of the children of the less privileged.”

Although she has spent N5 million from her own pocket, she appealed for further intervention from well meaning Nigerians to help actualize her vision for empowerment.

And the Ologudu of Ogudu Kingdom,  King Najimu Akinwunmi Fashola, appealed to philanthropic Nigerians to join hands in addressing the needs of millions of Nigerians amidst challenges of hunger, hardship and insecurity in the land.

The King, who donated his Palace to be used for the programme, said he decided to give his Palace for use because the issue in tackling hardship associated with hard economic situations has been his concern.

Fashola made this call when he flagged off Harbour of Hope for the less privileged outreach to the people in and around his domain.

According to Fashola,  it’s a good gesture and that he loves it and that people should do such.He also prayed for them, adding that a lot of people can not afford healthcare due to the state of the economy.
