Nigeria Institute of Building NIOB, has organized a continuous professional development workshop for quality assurance managers.
The workshop was organised by the Artisans & Craftsmen Qualifications Awarding Board (A&CQAB) of the Nigerian Institute of Building (NIOB) as part of its oversight functions as an Awarding Body for the certification of
construction trades in Nigeria.
The workshop which held at Abuja, Lagos and Port Harcourt Centers respectively, witnessed the largest gathering of Quality Assurance Managers under the National Skills Qualifications (NSQ) in the Nigeria.
The Board Chairman, Bldr. Christopher Belonwu at the welcome address highlighted that as part of the take homes after the workshop, participants are expected to understanding the expectations of the Awarding Body for learners’ induction and support, understanding occupational expertise required by Assessors and Verifiers, ensure quality and consistency of assessment of accredited qualifications and know the recommended assessment methodology, instruments of assessment and documentation to be used for assessment.
The 2 Day workshop which had seasoned Quality Assurance Managers as resource persons featured lectures, practical demonstration of assessment practice and group sessions were Internal Quality Assurance Managers and Quality Assurance Assessors interfaced directly.
Bldr. Samson Opaluwah who is the Chairman of Council of Registered Builders of Nigeria (CORBON) emphasised on the importance of National Skills Qualifications (NSQ) in getting competent workers for the construction sector. It is the way to go for Builders since the outcome of Learners assessment will impact the output of Builders. According to him, the workshop was timely since it standardises the practice of Quality Assurance Managers, Center Heads and Trainees in the NSQ process.
In his remarks, Bldr. Kenneth Nduka, a Past President of the Institute highlighted the importance of the workshop as part of the expectations for practice among Quality Assurance Managers and that it has generated a practice outlet for Builders. Therefore, he encouraged participants to be serious with the workshop since good practice will curtail poor quality delivery and building collapse in Nigeria.
Bldr. Kunle Awobodu, a Past President of the Institute and a member of the Artisans and Craftsmen Qualifications Awarding Board encouraged participants to be up and running in carrying out their activities as Quality Assurance Managers.
Similar workshop will be organised for NSQ training Center Heads and External Quality Assurance Managers with a view to getting everyone onboard.
Bldr. Adebolanle Araba, the past Chairman, College of Fellows, in her closing remarks, highlighted the importance of discipline among Quality Assurance Managers in their practice. She also appreciated Berger Paints for making their Training Center available for the Lagos workshop. She appreciated everyone that attended the workshop, hoping what was learned will be put to good use.
