The chairman, NIS, Kaduna branch, Surveyor Maikano Samson, made the call yesterday during the commemoration of World Global Surveyors’ Day in Kaduna.

According to Maikano, quackery is causing a lot of harm, and establishing the office of surveyor-general in the state will help check the menace.

The chairman who also spoke on their visit to Joy International College said they went to explain the importance of choosing surveying as a career to the students.

“We are here to catch them young, explaining to the students the importance of surveying at this stage they are choosing their life careers. We want them to embrace surveying and that  was why we brought the message to their doorsteps,” he said.

Winston Ayeni, the former registrar, Surveyors’ Council of Nigeria, emphasized the need  to catch them young, adding that there were many benefits in surveying.

He said, “Most times people do professions that they are forced to which is not the best. I have never regretted surveying, I started surveying in 1972 and it has taken me to every part of the world.”

Describing surveying as a business, Ayeni said everybody needs it, adding, “It is important to catch them young, so that they begin to see the benefits and their relevance to government. Surveying is a business. Google map is a surveyor’s work. If you don’t have surveyor, you are blind”.

The principal, Joy International College, Mr. Oluwole Faponmle, expressed gratitude to the Nigerian Institution of Surveyors for the privilege.

He said, both the students and teachers learned a lot that would  help them in their life careers.

Precious David, who spoke on behalf of the students, thanked the surveyors for coming and promised to make the right.
