Minister of State for Works Umar Ibrahim has said the major hindrances to the progress of the construction of Dawakin Tofa to Gwarzo road in Kano State is lack of compensation.
The minister made the disclosure yesterday in Kano during his on the -spot inspection of the road which is under construction.
El Yakub said the Kano – Gwarzo-Dayi is 90.65km long, and a major route in the Northern part of the country which link Kano with many states in the North West and North Central geo political zones.
He said the road starts at Kabuga flyover bridge in Kano and terminates at Dayi town in Katsina State. The minister said official handing over of the site to the contractor, Messrs CGC Nigeria ltd was done on 10th of April 2021 after joint inspection.
According to the minister, Kano State government had dualised 7.2km of the road from Chainage to Bayero University Kano main gate.
Commenting on the viability of the road project, he said roads are not only meant to reduce traffic alone but are means of creating job opportunities, and shorten a long journey to be covered within the shortest period of time.
He said many people are empowered economically whenever government builds infrastructures based on the several works going on at the construction site including the company workers, labourers, sachet water, food vendors, truck drivers among others.
He said some of problems faced after take-off include substantial section of the project that falls within major settlements in Kano such Doka, Rimin Gido, Garo, Gwarzo, and Dayi and are requiring compensation.
Other visible impediments are the three number dams on the road which has alots of Water to be drained.
At the Western by pass road the minster decried the slow pace of work as the contractors Dantata and Sawoe have exceeded their timeline despite the untold hardship faced by commuters.
He said “although i am not doubting the competence of the contractors but felt there is the need for them to expedite action and finish the job henceforth.”
