The Soun of Ogbomosoland, Oba Ghandi Afolabi Olaoye, has indefinitely suspended former lawmaker, Senator Hamzat Ayoade Adeseun, from the traditional title of Mayegun of Ogbomosoland over alleged misconduct and disrespect to the palace.

The suspension was conveyed in a letter dated March 23, 2026, and signed by the palace secretary, Toyin Ajamu, on behalf of the monarch.

In the letter, the palace stated that the decision followed what it described as the senator’s “recent and continued conduct,” which it said had become “a matter of grave concern and embarrassment to the Palace and the revered stool of the Soun.”

The statement noted that the monarch acted out of “a firm sense of royal duty and responsibility,” adding that Senator Adeseun’s actions amounted to “sustained acts of insubordination, wilful disregard, and persistent disrespect toward the Palace and the sacred institution it represents.”

According to the palace, the conduct attributed to the former lawmaker fell short of the expectations attached to his position as a chief and titleholder.

“These actions, observed over a considerable period and manifested through various utterances and behaviours, fall significantly short of the dignity, honour, and responsibility expected of a chief of this palace and the holder of the esteemed title of Mayegun of Ogbomosoland,” the letter stated.

The monarch further accused Adeseun of displaying a “consistent and unacceptable disregard for the authority, traditions, and sanctity of the Palace,” noting that such behaviour is incompatible with the obligations of his chieftaincy title.

Consequently, the monarch exercised his authority to suspend the former senator indefinitely.

“Accordingly, in the exercise of his royal prerogative and authority as the Soun of Ogbomosoland… His Imperial Majesty hereby suspends you… indefinitely from the office and chieftaincy title of Mayegun of Ogbomosoland, with immediate effect from the date of this letter,” the statement read.

The palace also directed Adeseun to immediately stop presenting himself as the Mayegun of Ogbomosoland in any form.

“You are hereby directed, with immediate effect, to cease and desist from parading yourself, presenting yourself, or allowing yourself to be addressed as the Mayegun of Ogbomosoland in any capacity whatsoever—whether at public gatherings, official engagements, in the media, on social media platforms, in correspondence, or in any other forum—for the duration of this suspension,” the letter added.

The monarch expressed expectation of full compliance, warning against any further actions that could undermine the authority and dignity of the palace.

“His Imperial Majesty expects your full compliance with this directive and trusts that you will conduct yourself accordingly, without further recourse to actions that may undermine the authority and dignity of the Palace,” the statement concluded.
