An Accord Party aspirant for Osun East Senatorial District, Samuel Oyedotun, has described the continued vandalism of political billboards across Osun State as uncivilised and primitive.
Reacting to the scenario, he called for urgent intervention by security agencies, including the police, to stem the trend and restore sanity in the state.
He said Governor Ademola Adeleke’s popularity is enough for him to win the 15th August governorship election and insisted that destroying his campaign billboards cannot change the voters’ mind.
Oyedotun argued that the people destroying Adeleke’s billboards, are only making him more popular, insisting that the act cannot affect the governor’s popularity.
While expressing confidence in clinching the Accord Party ticket for Osun East, Oyedotun said if elected, he would follow Adeleke’s approach by prioritising the welfare of the people irrespective of party affiliation.
Meanwhile, the Osun State Police Command has warned those destroying the billboards and other government symbols within the state to desist or face the consequences of their actions.
The command, in a statement by its public relations officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, urged all political parties, candidates, and their supporters to conduct their activities within the ambit of the law and in strict compliance with the provisions of the Electoral Act”
“The police have commenced a discreet investigation into the incidents with a view to identifying, arresting, and prosecuting the perpetrators in accordance with the”law”, Ojelabi stated.
