The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has urged members and the public to disregard circulating lists claiming to show newly – elected party executives at ward and local government levels, describing them as fake and potentially divisive.
In a statement issued Saturday, APC publicity secretary Olawale Sadare, said the fake lists, circulating on social media, were being propagated by “mischievous elements” to undermine party cohesion and frustrate genuine supporters.
“The list was being circulated by some mischievous elements to frustrate the overall interest of stakeholders and genuine supporters of the APC,” Sadare said.
The state had earlier conducted nationwide Ward and LGA congresses on February 18 and 21, electing officials to manage grassroots affairs for the next four years.
Sadare confirmed that the APC is set to hold its state congress on Tuesday at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Ibadan. He encouraged party members to attend, assuring that “all arrangements have been put in place to make it a huge success.”
He emphasised the legitimacy of the congress outcomes, noting:
“We stand by the outcome of the congresses across 351 Wards and 33 LGAs in the state. The consensus arrangement prescribed by the national leadership was employed, giving us the desired results. Nobody should entertain any fear regarding the status of those who emerged.”
Sadare added that inauguration of Ward and LGA executives would follow the formation of the new State Executive Committee. The state committee itself will emerge through consensus, with each of the 33 LGAs selecting representatives.
He reassured party members,
“The party is waxing stronger every day. There will be no room for distractions or sabotage from any quarters. APC remains the only serious political party in Oyo State, committed to sustaining constitutional democracy and the rule of law.”
