Oyo Impounds Cattle For Grazing On Public Road

The Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority (OYRLEA) has impounded two cows found grazing openly on a public road in Ibadan, reaffirming its commitment to enforcing the state’s anti-open grazing law and environmental regulations.

The authority disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday, noting that the enforcement actions were carried out on Wednesday, August 6.

According to the statement signed by the chairperson of OYRLEA, Justice Aderonke Aderemi (Rtd.), the agency’s enforcement team acted on a distress call and mobilised to Kudeti Avenue, Agbarigo Junction, where two cows were discovered grazing on the road and obstructing the free flow of traffic.

The authority said the animals were immediately impounded in accordance with the provisions of the Oyo State Anti-Open Rearing and Grazing Law, 2019.

“Two cows were found grazing openly on the road and obstructing traffic. In line with the Oyo State Anti-Open Rearing and Grazing Law, 2019, the cows were promptly impounded, restoring order and ensuring the safety of road users,” the statement read.

Following the operation, the enforcement team proceeded to Morubo-Ope Community in Apete, Ibadan, to investigate a petition alleging excessive noise pollution from a block moulding factory.

The inspection was carried out in collaboration with the Pollution Monitoring and Control Department of the Oyo State Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources.

According to OYRLEA, the joint assessment confirmed that the noise generated by the facility exceeded acceptable levels and had become a nuisance to residents of the community.

The authority said the owner of the block moulding business was advised to either relocate the operation to a more suitable location or install effective noise reduction measures to minimise the disturbance.

OYRLEA reiterated its commitment to enforcing the laws of Oyo State, safeguarding public health and maintaining environmental standards across the state.

The authority also urged residents to continue reporting traffic and environmental violations to facilitate prompt enforcement and protect public safety.
