PICTORIAL: Flood Submerges 255 Houses After Heavy Downpour In Katsina

Flood has submerged over 255 houses in the Natsinta community of Jibia local government area of Katsina State after a devastating heavy downpour.

The disaster was caused as a result of torrential rainfall for several days, rendering over 1,000 persons homeless, mostly women and children.

Although no live was lost, but several individuals sustained injuries, with some currently receiving medical treatment. The affected houses, mostly mud-brick structures, were destroyed, leaving many victims in distress and uncertainty about their shelter.

The village head of the community, Dayebu Mai Ungwa, expressed worry over the situation, stressing that while they were still struggling with what to eat daily, the flood disaster has compounded their situation.

“We have nothing to say but to thank God because He allowed all that to happen; therefore, we have no reason to question Him.

“About 250 houses were affected; we are not talking about houses that fell in today’s rain. I was just informed that an additional four houses were just submerged, and I’m seeing about two houses that have been destroyed.

“We are calling on the government to assist the people with roofing sheets, cement, blocks, and money to have where they can sleep for now,” he said.

The lawmaker representing Jibia State constituency in the State House of Assembly, Mustafa Yusuf, visited the community and expressed sadness at the extent of damage, assuring the victims that the State Assembly would deliberate on the matter this week to enable the state government to assist them.
