The Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (PiCNG), on Thursday, launched its E-Mobility programme with a roll-out of 40 electric buses to be deployed for public use across selected States of the Federation.
According to PiCNG executive chairman, Barr. Ismaeel Ahmed, the E-Mobility launch was the actualisation of a mandate given to the Initiative by President Bola Tinubu as part of the national effort to lower transportation costs, diversify energy sources, and deepen the use of clean, affordable alternatives for Nigerians.
Taking to his verified Facebook page, Barr. Ahmed said: “Today marks a momentous milestone for me as the Executive Chairman of the Presidential Initiative on Compressed Natural Gas (PiCNG).
“We have officially launched our E-Mobility Programme—an important mandate given to us by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu as part of the national effort to lower transportation costs, diversify our energy sources, and deepen the use of clean, affordable alternatives for Nigerians.
“This afternoon, we rolled out over 40 electric buses, which will be deployed immediately for public use across selected states. This launch represents a major leap forward in our drive to strengthen Nigeria’s mobility ecosystem through competitive energy solutions. With CNG and now E-Mobility advancing side by side, we are expanding access, reducing costs, and positioning our country for a cleaner and more efficient transport future.
“Today’s achievement is a remarkable way to close the year. And I am confident that the coming year will be transformative for both CNG and E-Mobility, as Nigeria takes its rightful place as a global leader in energy competitiveness.
“As of today, Nigeria proudly holds the largest electric vehicle fleet in Africa—a testament to our ambition, our resolve, and our commitment to a modern, sustainable transport system.”
