Plateau State government has been urged to carry people of the state along in project execution as they are either unaware of projects being executed in their communities or have no input to make projects meet their needs.

The government was also urged to ensure  transparency and accountability in project execution.

The call was made at a stakeholders’ forum on Open Contracting and Project Accountability in Jos yesterday.

It was organised by Accountability Lab, Nigeria in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and the state government.

Chairperson of the Coalition of Civil Society and the Media on Open Contracting Partnership, Prof. Patricia Lar, said their mission was to hold government accountable for funds expended on projects in the various communities.

Lar said the crucial initiative was a cornerstone of the UNDP-funded Anti-Corruption and Innovation Project (ACIP) dedicated to fostering transparency, accountability and governance in public projects.
