Police Honour Fallen Officers, Present N89.2m To Families In Lagos

The Police Command in Lagos State has presented cheques worth N89.2 million to 157 families and next-of-kin of deceased police officers who served under the command.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the presentation was held at the command headquarters in Ikeja.

The Commissioner of Police, Mr Fatai Tijani, disclosed this in a statement signed by the command’s spokesperson, SP Abimbola Adebisi, on Friday in Lagos.

He said the cheques, totalling N89,201,523.07, represented claims under the welfare and insurance schemes of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF).

Tijani said the payment was aimed at providing financial support to families of officers, who lost their lives in the course of service.

He said though the financial support could not replace the lives of the deceased officers, it demonstrated the police force’s  commitment to honouring their sacrifices and ensuring that their families were not abandoned.

The commissioner urged the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the funds, particularly for the welfare and education of the children and other dependants left behind.

He assured the families that the command would continue to facilitate the prompt processing of legitimate claims due to beneficiaries of deceased personnel.

The police boss also, reassured serving police officers that their welfare and that of their families remained a priority of the NPF.

He sympathised with the beneficiaries, saying the gesture would provide some relief to the affected families while reinforcing the assurance that the sacrifices of fallen officers had not been forgotten.

Tijani appreciated the Inspector-General of Police, Mr Olatunji Disu, for the intervention  and continued solidarity to the beneficiaries. (NAN)
