The Nasarawa State Police Command has arrested two suspects for allegedly killing one Felicia Namkywa, in Agwatashi, Obi local government area of the state.
The suspects, Abubakar Ibrahim and Isah Ayuba both males of Shember village were said to have lured the woman, a petty trader to a location and straggled her to death.
A statement by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSP Ramhan Nansel on Sunday in Lafia, said the arrest followed a complaint lodged at Obi Divisional Police Headquarters that the trader has been missing for days, and all efforts to trace her whereabouts proved abortive.
DSP Nansel explained that the victim was lured via phone call by one of the suspects, Ibrahim, who was owing her the sum of N40,000 to come and purchase grains in one of the Fulani settlements (Ruga) of the area.
“Unknown to her, there was a sinister plan to take her life and dispossess her of her business capital,” he stated.
Explaining further, he said the suspects upon interrogation confessed to having lured and abducting the victim, took her deep into the forest where she was strangled to death.
Police spokesman in the state further said the suspects then took the sum of N500,000 with which the victim intended to buy the grain and went ahead to dump her remains in a swamp.
Nansel noted that after a painstaking investigation, the suspects who were arrested by the detectives attached to Obi Division, after interrogation subsequently led the police operatives to the scene where the decayed remains of the victim were recovered.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada, has ordered the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of State Criminal Investigation Department to swiftly conclude the investigation and charge the suspects to court for immediate prosecution.
“He further extended his condolences to the family of the victim and urged them to be calm while assuring them that justice would be served,” he added.
