Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have re-arrested eight of the 11 suspects who allegedly escaped from lawful custody at a police facility in the Ughelli area of the state.

The Force Public Relations Officer, Ani Iniedu, disclosed this in a statement issued at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, on Tuesday, as part of the Nigeria Police Force’s 24-hour operational successes across the country.

According to Iniedu, the suspects were re-arrested through intelligence-led operations, while the case is currently being investigated by the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Asaba.

“Following the escape of 11 suspects from lawful custody at a police facility in Ughelli, concerted police efforts led to the re-arrest of eight suspects. Status: SCID Asaba Investigating,” the statement partly read.

The police also reported the arrest of a suspect in connection with the alleged illegal disposal of oil-contaminated sludge along the Ughelli/Iyede Expressway on Sunday, August 16, 2026.

Iniedu said the suspect was arrested at the scene, while one truck allegedly used in the illegal activity was recovered.

The case, he added, is being investigated by the SCID, Asaba.

Meanwhile, in Anambra State, police operatives acting on credible intelligence arrested a 49-year-old male suspect at Obosi, in Idemili North Local Government Area, on Monday, August 17.

“One pump-action gun and 50 live cartridges were recovered from his possession,” the FPRO said, adding that investigations are underway at SCID Awka.

In Kogi State, the police also secured the release of 12 abducted victims at Abocho, Dekina Local Government Area.

Iniedu said sustained pressure by security forces led to the victims’ release on Monday, August 17, after which they were taken to the Divisional Police Headquarters for debriefing before being reunited with their families.

“Sustained pressure by security forces led to the release of 12 abducted victims at Abocho, Dekina LGA. The victims were taken to the Divisional Police Headquarters, debriefed and subsequently reunited with their families,” he added.

The Force said additional operational successes were recorded in the Federal Capital Territory, Oyo, Benue, Niger, Bayelsa and Ogun states as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen security and combat criminal activities nationwide.
