Ekiti State commissioner of police, Mr Joseph Eribo, has asked the residents of the state to eschew acts of criminality and embrace peace for the safety of the people the state.
Eribo also urged the people to join the police in the fight against cultism and other anti-social vices in the state and the country at large.
The police boss spoke at the weekend during the sensitisation Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices embarked upon by the police command.
The command’s public relations officer, SP Sunday Abutu, in a statement, said the campaign was organised in collaboration with the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices (POCACOV).
The leadership of the command and others embarked on a road walk and campaign against cultism, drug abuse and other vices.
The walk, which was equally aimed at ensuring a crime-free Christmas and New Year, commenced from the command headquarters and covered major streets within Ado-Ekiti metropolis.
It featured the sensitisation of the general public on the dangers of cultism, drug trafficking/abuse, gender-based violence, and other criminal acts.
During the exercise, Eribo further implored members of the public to be more security conscious during and after the festive period.
The sensitisation campaign, according to the police boss, is in line with the inspector-general of police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun’s proactive policing technique, crime prevention measures, and inclusive policing strategy, aimed at ensuring a crime-free society and the safety of lives and property for all.
