The Nasarawa State Police Command has warned politicians and supporters against holding rallies and processions that violate the Electoral Act, following violent clashes that left property destroyed in parts of the state.

Commissioner of Police Shettima Jauro Mohammed issued the warning yesterday, citing clashes between rival political supporters that led to vandalized campaign billboards and damaged vehicles belonging to residents.

“The Command will not tolerate unlawful political activities,” CP Mohammed said through Police Public Relations Officer SP Ramhan Nansel.

“Anyone found sponsoring thugs or causing a breach of the peace will be arrested and prosecuted.”

The Command said Section 98 (1) of the Electoral Act, 2026, bars campaigns from starting earlier than 150 days before polling day. Campaigns must end 24 hours before the election.

CP Mohammed expressed concern that some political supporters are threatening the peace in Nasarawa.

He said the Nigeria Police Force remains neutral and will provide a level playing field for all parties while protecting lives and property.

He urged parents, community leaders and political stakeholders to caution their supporters against violence, hooliganism and political intolerance.

“All political parties, aspirants and support groups must comply with the law on campaigns, rallies and meetings,” Nansel said.

The Command asked residents to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station. It said officers will deploy lawful measures to maintain public order and prevent intimidation.
