The group’s director of intelligence, monitoring, evaluation and situation room Engr. Ozi-Raji Bill Williams explained how he swiftly mobilised his team to avert the hunger protests in the nation’s capital.

Williams in a statement he issued yesterday, revealed how tensions was high during the protest that was triggered by the Hunger-In-The-Land Mass Protesters, an extension of the Niger State 5,000-man march, involving over 100 political support groups in Abuja with well over 3,000 participants.

According to the director general of the Tinubu/Shetima Intelligence Network, he swiftly mobilised his team upon getting wind of the brewing crisis and managed to de-escalate the situation without the involvement of security agencies or any joint task force.

He said the aggrieved and bitter protesters, were pacified because he demonstrated a keen understanding of their concerns.

Williams said having been familiar with most of their leaders, he was granted a timely audience, engaging with them for over two hours, adding that during this time, he pleaded for patience, urging them to shield their swords as efforts were underway within the leadership of the country to ensure immediate free food distribution.

He stressed the commitment of the federal government to empty the National Grains Reserve to address the ongoing hunger crisis and highlighted the transparent efforts of key figures such as the minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike, minister of agriculture and food security, Alhaji Abubakar Kyari, and the FCT mandate secretary; Agric and Rural Development, Alhaji Lawal Kolo Geidam.

He said that after two and a half hours of persuasion, the leader of the protesters, Alhaji Mustapha Ibrahim-Minna, acknowledged the assistance provided to 100 members of the Tinubu Shettima Trust Support Group last year through his (William’s) efforts.

He however, expressed concern that over 1600 members had yet to receive any support, assuring the remaining 1600 individuals from the same group and others that their assistance was on the way.

Williams, who commended the FCT minister, the minister of agriculture, and the mandate secretary for their coordinated grain distribution, pledged his commitment to ensuring a better life for support group members.

He claimed that the potentially explosive situation was successfully diffused, preventing what could have been FCTA’s worst nightmare.
