Mogaji Wole Arisekola, President of the Association of Online Media Practitioners of Nigeria (AMPON) and publisher of The Street Journal, has urged the leadership of organized labor to reconsider strike action. He emphasized that private sector employers may struggle to survive the aftermath of COVID-19 and the naira redesign policy. Arisekola called for more negotiations with the government to find solutions.
During a breakfast meeting at Eko Hotel, Arisekola expressed dissatisfaction with how some public servants are handling sensitive matters, reflecting poorly on President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration. He cautioned against unnecessary panic caused by the announcement of N617 naira per liter for PMS and urged the government to be more sensitive to the socio-economic challenges faced by the masses.
Arisekola emphasized that the government needs to be careful and avoid giving room for sycophants and disgruntled civil servants who may harm its renewed hope agenda. He also urged President Tinubu to jettison individuals around him who hinder policy direction and sensitivity to the masses.
He called on politicians to change the narrative by formulating and implementing masses-friendly policies to win people’s support. Arisekola acknowledged that mistakes are inevitable in leadership but stressed the need for necessary amends to be intentional and genuine.
He expressed understanding for the impatience and frustration of Nigerians seeking immediate relief after years of suffering. Arisekola urged the government to address power cuts, discontent, inflation, and the high number of out-of-school children. He reaffirmed his belief in President Tinubu’s well-intentioned administration but warned against allowing individuals who do not share his principles to influence the government’s direction.
