Reps Confirm Appointment Of New Service Chiefs

The House of Representatives yesterday confirmed the nomination of four generals for appointment as service chiefs.

They are Lieutenant General Olufemi Oluyede, Chief of Defence Staff; Major General Wahidi Shaibu, Chief of Army staff, Rear Admiral Idi Abbas, Chief of Naval staff and Air Vice Marshal Kelvin Aneke, Chief of Air Staff.

The confirmation followed the consideration and adoption of the report of the House ad–hoc Committee on the Screening of the Nominees for Appointment as Chief of Defence Staff and Service Chiefs at plenary.

Presenting the report, chairman of the panel, Hon. Babajimi Bensionv(APC, Lagos) prayed the House to consider the submission and approve the recommendations therein.

The committee recommended that:

“Lieutenant General Olufemi Olatunbosun Oluyede be confirmed as the Chief of Defence Staff of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; having successfully undergone the screening process.

Federal Republic of Nigeria; having successfully undergone screening process.

“Air Vice Marshal Sunday Kelvin Aneke be confirmed as the Chief of Air Staff of the Armed Forces of the Federal Republic of Nigeria; having successfully undergone screening process.”
