National president of the Nigerian Air Force Officers Wives Association (NAFOWA), Dr Rakiya Abubakar, has cautioned young persons with disabilities against engaging in social vices that will land them in jail, no matter the level of difficulties and hardship they are going through.

Abubakar, who made the admonition during the distribution of food and non-food items to 150 vulnerable groups comprising widows and persons with disabilities at the Air Force Base, Makurdi, lamented a situation where some well-placed personalities find it succulent to use the vulnerable group for their selfish purposes.

She explained that the distribution of wheelchairs, clutches, and food items, among other things, is to aid their movement and cushion the effects of hunger, saying this is done in continuation of NAFOWA’s programme on Mental Health talk/ Medical and Humanitarian outreach across the country.

She said, “Today’s donation is in commemoration of my one year in office, and so far, 3,500 vulnerable Nigerians across the state have benefitted from the association’s ongoing initiative.”

While appealing to beneficiaries not to engage in criminal activities, Dr Rakiya also urged them not to sell whatever is given to them as palliatives but to make maximum use of the items to improve their living standards.

In a welcome address, NAFOWA chairperson, Tactical Air Command, Makurdi, Osas Edosa, applauded Dr Rakiya Abubakar for her pragmatic leadership style of alleviating the plight of the vulnerable in the country, adding that this will go a long way in cushioning the impact of the hardship they are going through.

Earlier, the Air Officer Commanding Tactical Air Command Makurdi, Francis Edosa, who described NAFOWA as a highly organised association, commended it for always taking into cognisance the plight of the vulnerable groups in the country.
