The leadership of Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has asked members and indeed Nigerians to continuously uphold the tenets of love and unity which the birth of Jesus Christ and the celebration of Christmas represent.

SWAN president, Mr. Isaiah Benjamin, in a statement issued by the association’s secretary-general, Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, yesterday, said, “It is of essence for all to be reminded that in this season and beyond, our sincere acts of kindness and good thoughts as well as behavioural patterns matter every day, everywhere.

“Christmas season is a celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ, which holds immense significance for all of us as it symbolises the birth of hope, the promise of renewal, and the enduring power of kindness. In the midst of our diverse backgrounds and unique journeys, we find common ground in the universal themes of love, generosity, and the joy of giving.

“As we gather with family and friends, let us reach out to one another especially the less fortunate ones amongst us with open hearts and open hands, fostering a sense of togetherness and understanding. In the spirit of Christmas, let us embrace the opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of those around us.
“Let us remind ourselves that small acts of kindness can have a profound impact on individuals and families facing challenges.

“Let the spirit of the season therefore once again serve as an inspiration for us to bridge gaps, foster understanding, and build a profession where every member feels valued and carried along.
While extending Christmas wishes to the federal government, particularly the president of Nigeria, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu; minister of sports development, Senator John Owan Enoh; Senate/House of Representatives committees chairmen on sports; sports federation presidents; athletes and others, Benjamin also enjoined members to brace up for the coming year as “it holds promise of greater exploits with most dedication and reinforcement in our resolve to work as a united force in achieving a common goal.

“Already, since the inception of the current SWAN leadership, we have taken practical steps in harmonising our members across the country. In 2024, we will continue in this trajectory as well as roll out programmes that will advance us as professional media practitioners irrespective of challenges and distractions from any quarter.

“The onus now lie on us as members to work together in a bid to wade off impeding tendencies especially as we usher in 2024, a period that will mark a historic 60 years of our existence as a professional body in Nigeria.

“At the moment, enjoy the season of Christmas, and see you in a New Year full of Prosperity,” he said.
