A 100-level student of Taraba State Polytechnic, Saanmoyol Paul, was electrocuted by a public cable wire in Jalingo, Taraba State capital, while flying a flag of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday.
Paul, along with tens of youths, was flying the PDP flags to show the party’s presence during President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s visit to Taraba State. The president was represented by his vice, Sen. Kashim Shetima, on the occasion of the Taraba International Investment Summit (TARAVEST).
The flags are constructed with lengthy and heavy iron rods and must be held by energetic young person for a stipend to be paid. While Saamoyor was holding his own iron rod, it touched an electrical wire, and he was electrocuted.
Speaking at Gilead Hospital Magami in Jalingo, Paul, who was struggling to speak, appealed to the state government to come to his aid and relocate him from the hospital, revealing that his condition had been worsening since he was brought to the facility.
Those around Paul in the hospital also disclosed that he was rushed to the hospital in a critical condition after the electrocution incident; they also revealed that there was no improvement after more than 15 hours of treatment.
The coordinator of the PDP Youths Movement, who is also in charge of mobilising for the PDP Flying Flags (PDPFF), Hon. Iliya Kefas, confirmed the incident to our correspondent.
