Tobi Amusan Confirmed For Athlos London, New York Meets

World 100m hurdles record holder Tobi Amusan has been confirmed for the London and New York legs of the all-female Athlos track and field series, organisers have announced.

The Nigerian hurdler, who holds the world record of 12.12 seconds in the 100m hurdles, will compete in her specialist event at StoneX Stadium in London on September 18 before featuring at Icahn Stadium in New York on October 2.

Amusan joins an increasingly star-studded field that includes American sprinters Sha’Carri Richardson, Gabby Thomas, Tara Davis-Woodhall and Masai Russell, as well as Dominican Olympic champion Marileidy Paulino.

Athlos, a professional women-only track and field series, made its debut at New York’s Icahn Stadium on September 26, 2024, as a one-day event.

The 2026 edition represents a major expansion, with London and New York set to host the series in a two-city transatlantic format.

Founded by Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, Athlos is seeking to reshape women’s professional athletics, with organisers announcing a record $2.1 million (£1.5m) prize purse for the 2026 series.

In an unprecedented move, all participating athletes will also receive equity stakes in the league.

“The cash compensates their participation and success, and the equity recognises what we’re building together,” Ohanian told the BBC in May.

“If we get this right, it should properly place these amazing athletes on the same level as they are every four years during the Olympics.”

Seven events will be contested at both venues – the 100m hurdles, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, mile and long jump.

Athletes will accumulate points across the events, with the combined totals determining the overall champions in each city.

Individual event winners can earn up to $65,000, while overall champions will receive an additional $25,000 bonus.

An athlete who wins an individual event and the overall title in both London and New York could earn as much as $155,000 across the two meets.

The London event at StoneX Stadium, home of rugby union club Saracens, will mark Athlos’ first meeting outside the United States.

The New York leg will return to Icahn Stadium for a third consecutive year, two weeks after the London meeting.

Organisers are expected to announce more athletes in the coming weeks as the field for the expanded series continues to take shape.
