Wanjiru Wins $10,000 Grand Prize In ECOWAS-Abuja International Marathon

In a thrilling display of athleticism, Kenyan runner Harrison Muchira Wanjiru emerged victorious in the 3rd ECOWAS-Abuja International Marathon held on Saturday morning in Nigeria’s capital city, Abuja.

Wanjiru dominated the 21km race, securing a cash prize of $10,000 for his impressive performance.

The marathon, which attracted participants from various countries, showcased some of the best long-distance runners from the African continent and beyond. Wanjiru’s victory underscored his status as one of Africa’s top competitors in the sport, further enhancing his reputation on the international stage.

In the shorter 5km events, local talents made their mark as well, with Sunday Dagyan and Vivian Obadiah, both hailing from Plateau State, claiming victory in the male and female categories, respectively. Each winner received a cash prize of $1,000, celebrating their exceptional speed and endurance.

The ECOWAS-Abuja International Marathon continues to grow in popularity, promoting not only athletic excellence but also fostering regional unity through sports. As the event concludes, participants and spectators alike look forward to the next edition, hoping to witness even more remarkable performances.
