Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde told journalists after the parley with the president that he and his colleagues were there to convey their commitment to fairness, justice, and equity in Nigeria, and the importance of these values for the nation’s development for the promotion of justice and equity in Nigeria.

During their meeting with President Tinubu , Governor Makinde said they highlighted the arduous nature of nation-building, emphasising the need for continuous evaluation and assessment of the country’s trajectory.

He stated, “Well, nation-building is a very difficult task. You have to keep evaluating, you know what your day is, where you’re going? So, we have to keep seeing the president, you know, to let them know what is happening.”

Governor Makinde further expressed the purpose of the G-5 Integrity Group’s visit, stating, “And the G-5, the integrity group, we also came to let the president know what we stood for: fairness, justice, and equity.”

LEADERSHIP Friday reports that the G-5 is made up of five PDP governors in the last administration:  Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), Samuel Ortom (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo) and Nyesom Wike (Rivers).

Among the G- 5 governors, only Makinde is still a serving governor after winning his re-lection bid. Ikpeazu, Ortom and Ugwuanyi lost their Senate bids. Wike had earlier lost his presidential primary contest to PDP flagbearer, Atiku Abubakar.

The aggrieved governors had formed an alliance after the party’s presidential primary was won by Atiku Abubakar in May 2022.
