Workers’ Day: ADC Promises Living Wage, Woos Nigerian Workers For 2027 Polls

The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Senator David Mark, has commended Nigerian workers for their resilience, dedication, and enduring sacrifices, saying the nation continues to stand on the strength of their labour.

In a 2026 Workers’ Day message issued on Friday in Abuja by his Technical Adviser on Strategic Communications, Kola Ologbondiyan, Mark described workers across all sectors, from classrooms and farms to hospitals, marketplaces, factories, and oil fields, as the backbone of the country’s survival and growth.

He, however, expressed concern over the worsening condition of workers, noting that many Nigerians continue to toil daily without fair wages, job security, or hope for a better future.

“The African Democratic Congress recognises that any nation that fails to protect the dignity of its workforce cannot genuinely claim to be progressing,” he said.

Mark decried the harsh economic realities confronting workers, stressing that rising inflation has weakened earning power, unemployment has dashed hopes, and citizens’ voices are increasingly being ignored.

“Inflation has eroded salaries. Unemployment has shattered dreams. And the basic right of people to be heard is increasingly under threat,” he stated.

The former Senate President assured that the ADC remains committed to restoring confidence in the workforce and rebuilding hope among Nigerians.

According to him, the party will champion policies that guarantee a living wage, rather than what he described as a mere minimum wage.

“We will push for pension reforms that restore dignity in retirement, promote policies that create real jobs, not statistical illusions, and build an economy where productivity is rewarded and corruption is punished, when elected, 2027” Mark added.

He further warned that anti-people forces often thrive when the labour movement is divided or silenced, insisting that the responsibility of rebuilding Nigeria ultimately lies with its workforce.

“On behalf of the ADC family, I wish all Nigerian workers a peaceful Workers’ Day. Your labour is not in vain. Nigeria will rise again, and it will be on the strength of your shoulders,” he said.
