The World Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) Organisation has congratulated former Nigerian military president Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida (IBB) on his 84th birthday.
In a statement issued yesterday, the organisation’s African continental governor, Alhaji Yahya Muhammad Guregi, praised Babangida’s contributions to Nigeria and Africa.
He described IBB as a “beacon of hope and resilience” whose reforms during his tenure as military head of state from 1985 to 1993 helped shape the nation’s socio-economic landscape.
“His legacy is marked by transformative policies, visionary leadership, and a commitment to progress,” Guregi said.
The organisation highlighted Babangida’s role in infrastructure development, education and healthcare reforms, adding that his initiatives continue to inspire generations of leaders.
Guregi also called on young Nigerians to learn from Babangida’s example, stressing that leadership should be rooted in service and integrity.
He further noted that Babangida’s contributions to peace and stability in Nigeria underscored the importance of unity and collaboration across Africa.
