Wuse Abuja Lions Club Donates Renovated 2-Bedroom Hostel, Food Items To Orphanage In FCT

Wuse Abuja Lions Clubs International, a non-governmental organization, has donated a fully furnished and renovated two-bedroom hostel, along with food and household items, to Anawim Orphanage Home in Gwagwalada, Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

This gesture is part of the organization’s ongoing humanitarian service to support vulnerable communities and ease financial hardship for less privileges.

Among the donated items were 6Bags of rice (50kg), 1Bag of beans, 25 litres of groundnut oil, 16 cartons of Indomie Noodles , toiletries, 15 tubers of yam, 1Bag of Gari, 6 Bags of (10kg) Semovita, Ceiling fan (2 Nos), 2 full bags of clothes, 1 set of upholstery Chair and 5 cartons of Spaghetti respectively.

Speaking at the event, President of Wuse Abuja Lions Club, Dr Emmanuel Chuks Ozegbe, said today, we have come together for two remarkable occasions — the commissioning of our health awareness signposts at the National Hospital, and the renovation of the Lions Hostel at Anawim Orphanage Home in Gwagwalada, FCT.

“This project embodies our mission to support, uplift, and empower those in need, and it illustrates the spirit of service that defines the Lions Club.”

He noted that the health awareness signpost at the National Hospital is intended to promote preventive care by guiding community members toward timely medical attention and access to vital health information.
“We hope the signpost will not only inform but inspire people to take control of their health,” he said.

The hostel renovation, he added, reflects the Club’s dedication to improving the living conditions of the less privileged.

“Anawim Home provides shelter and care for those who need it most. We believe that a safe and comfortable environment is fundamental to their well-being,” he said.

Emmanuel further emphasized that Lions Clubs International is a voluntary organization whose projects are funded through personal contributions from members.

“We have built boreholes, rehabilitated schools, and supported hospitals along Airport Road. The government cannot do it alone — we must all collaborate,” he said.

He also expressed empathy after witnessing the condition of a child abandoned by her parents, stressing the need for sustained intervention.

“Our efforts in renovating this facility reflect our commitment not just to providing aid but to fostering dignity and respect for every individual residing here,” he said.

Emmanuel praised the members of the Abuja Lions Club, partners, stakeholders, and all who contributed to making the initiative a reality.

“To our cherished community members, we are making a difference. As we stand at the intersection of service and compassion, let us remember that our journey does not end here. This is merely the beginning,” he added.

Also speaking at the event, a representative of the National Hospital management, led by Dr. Muhammad, described the handover ceremony of the signpost as a testimony of goodwill.

“We are indeed grateful for this signpost. It symbolizes the friendship and love that brought you here. We truly appreciate it. This will serve as a form of visibility and accessibility, helping people get better healthcare — including ventilator checks,” he said.
