The Governor who met with the institution’s management, described NEU’s facilities as state-of-the-art and capable of aiding academic excellence.

Represented by his Deputy, Manassah Daniel Jatau, the Governor explained that education is one of the key areas of concentration in view of its importance to development of other sectors, and stressed that he will stop at nothing to ensure providing the people with quality education for sustainable socio- economic development.

He charged the university authority to emphasise development especially in the area of herbal medicine since Gombe is blessed with abundant vegetation which are used in producing drugs.

” I have been following the developments in the university and I see it going beyond a North Eastern University but a University of Nigeria. I was fascinated by the centre of African Medicinal Research. If we are to continue to import our drugs a lot of our patients will die. I have always stressed this point that, we need to come back home and explore our natural endowments. We have all types of plants that can be used for medicines and the drugs manufactured locally shall be much affordable for our people”.
