The Zamfara State Government has banned all forms of farming within school premises across the state, saying that school yards and grounds are not for farming or hawking.
Speaking during a press conference on Monday, the Zamfara State Overseer Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Abdulmalik Garba Gajam, said new policy directions and administrative measures by the Zamfara State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology are aimed at strengthening the education sector in the state.
The commissioner maintained that the reconstruction was aimed at changing the education narrative, stressing that the era of bureaucracy in education is over.
“Farming activities within school premises are hereby banned, except for strictly educational purposes. Principals, head teachers and staff are hereby directed to comply with maintaining a conducive learning environment,” he ordered.
The state government has also issued a 30-day ultimatum to unauthorised occupants of teachers’ quarters across the state to vacate, as part of renewed efforts to reposition the education sector.
The Commissioner for Education further directed all principals to ensure full compliance within the stipulated period, emphasising that the housing quarters are meant to accommodate teachers in the state.
