An official of Goronyo LGA SEMA said a boat carrying approximately 45 passengers capsized while on transit.

As of press time, 10 individuals were confirmed dead, while six were rescued alive.

Meanwhile, search and rescue operations were intensified  yesterday to locate the remaining passengers.

Initial investigations suggest that overloading may have contributed to the incident, a recurring issue in similar accidents across the state’s riverine communities.

SEMA extended its condolences to the families of the deceased and urged community members to adhere to safety regulations and avoid overloading boats.

The agency, under the leadership of Hon. Aminu Liman Bodinga, said it remained dedicated to protecting life and property and would continue to collaborate with stakeholders to improve safety awareness and enforce inland waterways regulations.
