A fatal road accident, on Wednesday, claimed the lives of two persons at Refinery Junction near Effurun Roundabout in Delta State.
The accident involved a fully loaded tanker that reportedly lost control while descending a flyover at high speed. The vehicle veered off its lane and rammed into a commercial tricycle, popularly known as a Keke NAPEP, and a Toyota Corolla car.
Eyewitnesses said the impact of the collision was severe, leaving the tricycle crushed beneath the tanker. The keke rider and one passenger were confirmed dead at the scene.
Footage circulating on social media shows the tanker tilted by the roadside with the wreckage of the tricycle trapped underneath, while bystanders gathered at the scene.
The incident has once again raised concerns over speeding and the movement of heavy-duty vehicles within busy urban areas in the country.
