Ebonyi State government has said that 235 criminal and civil cases have been dispensed within one year following the establishment of the Citizens Mediation Centre.

The state commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Barrister Ben Odo made the disclosure in an interaction with LEADERSHIP Weekend in Abakaliki.

He noted that out of the 235 cases successfully concluded, 154 were civil cases, while 41 were criminal cases, adding that the conclusion of the cases demonstrated the ministry’s commitment to effective dispensation of justice.

“The establishment of Citizens Mediation Centre provides an alternative dispute resolution mechanism for the people. It has helped us resolve disputes more amicably and quickly, reducing the burden on the formal justice system and leading to less congestion in the courts.

The commissioner said that 46 cases have been successfully disposed of in the centre.
