The  Ohimege Opanda, Umaisha in Nasarawa State, Alhaji Usman Abdullahi, has urged his people to view their participation in the forthcoming population and housing census as a service to Umaisha, Nasarawa State and the country at large.

The first class traditional ruler called on them to come out massively and participate fully in the exercise.

He spoke at his palace in Umaisha while addressing his people after the Eid – el – Fitr prayers yesterday.

He said the last census which put the population of the state at over two million did not reflect the numerical strength of the state, noting that the citizens owe the state a duty to correct the misconception during the 2023 exercise.

According to him, population and housing census is of great relevance to the economic, political and socio-cultural planning of a country.

He noted that reliable and detailed data on the size, structure, distribution and socio-economic and demographic characteristics of a country’s population is required for policy intervention and monitoring of development goals.

He expressed confidence that the 2023 census would be different from the last one because of the digitisation of the exercise, which he said, would enhance its credibility.

He commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for putting in place the right mechanism toward sensitising the people on the importance of the exercise early.

He called on the citizens to also co-operate fully with the staff that would carry out the exercise.

While also commending Governor Sule over his developmental strides and security efforts in the area, he urged him to complete the Umaisha /Toto road and rural electrification project in the area.

“We are going into a new political dispensation as new leaders are coming on board, it is on this note that I want to advise them (politicians) to ensure that they fulfill their campaign promises to the people,” he said.

He urged politicians who lost in the general elections to accept their fate as an act of God and join hands with the winners to develop the state.
