The Rotary Club of Abuja Kubwa as part of its intervention projects has commissioned project of renovation of Police Control Post, filling of pot-holes and landscaping of road at Aso Savings junction In Kubwa, a satellite town in the Federal Capital Territory to ease flow of traffic for commuters.
At the event over the weekend, President of the Club, Rtn Emmanuel Abonta said it has been the practice of Rotary Clubs to identify areas of need within its cashment area, adding that the project will help road users to commute easily to their destinations.
Speaking about other projects by the Club, he said; “We adopted a community somewhere here called Kungabukun where we have helped renovate their health centre, provided free drugs to all pregnant women, renovate their LEA school, and built a new class room and administrative blocks. We have also provided bus-stop nearby, at Ashafa within this neighbourhood.
“As voluntary organisation, we cannot sit and fold our arms, we have to come out to fill in the gap. That is what we are trying to do here today, by giving back to the community,” he said.
Rtn Abonta advised Nigerians to embrace and support humanitarian work to provide solution to the society, adding that government cannot do it alone.
“I encourage members of the public to join Rotary International. One of the benefits is the opportunity to provide service to humanity. Many people on their own cannot do much, but when you join an organization like Rotary, then the platform is provided for you to render service to the community. Our members are groomed on leadership, and you have opportunity to make friends and network for business and other things.”
On his part, District Governor (D9125) Rtn Sagab Sani Ahmed in his remark said the idea of the project is to improve on infrastructure in the community.
The DG at the commissioning said one of the major aims of Rotary is to develop a community within which Rotarians live and this is one of such projects. “This is a commendable project particularly looking at the area it is being done, which is very useful to the people.”
He tasked people in the community to protect and take ownership of the project for their own benefit.
After commissioning of the project, the Club went into a meeting with the DG, Board of Directors and Club Assembly. The event also witnessed induction of new members into the Club.
