Socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Youths Movement, has hailed the Court of Appeal for upholding the election of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu.
Recall that on Thursday, the Appeal Court in Lagos dismissed the petition by the Action Alliance (AA) challenging the election of Kalu for Bende federal constituency of Abia State.
Also recall that the National Assembly Election Petitions Tribunal sitting in Umuahia, Abia State, had in August struck out the matter after the AA candidate in the election, Ifeanyi Igbokwe, told the panel that he did not file any suit against Kalu.
The socio-cultural group, in a statement by its executive leaders, Nwabueze Obi, Ekwem Eucharia, and Ndukaku Chris, commended the Appeal Court, describing Kalu’s victory as a victory for the Igbos.
The apex Igbo youth group, however, bemoaned the alleged involvement of former lawmaker and Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, and Governor of Imo State, Hope Uzodimma, in the failed plot to remove Ben Kalu as Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives by voiding his election.
The youths wondered why the duo was not happy their tribesman is occupying such an important seat in government, which is a huge benefit to the Igbos.
The group, while warning Onyejeocha and Uzodimma to desist from actions that will undermine the administration of President Bola Tinubu and bring shame to the Igbos, they demanded an apology for their alleged involvement in the failed plot to remove Hon. Kalu from the federal parliament.
